On My Knees for Such as These – Day 19: Respect (A Mother’s Prayer)

On My Knees for Such as These – Day 19: Respect (A Mother’s Prayer)

“Make the Master proud of you by being good citizens. Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God’s emissaries for keeping order. It is God’s will that by doing good, you might cure the ignorance of the fools who think you’re a danger to society. Exercise your freedom by serving God, not by breaking the rules. Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.”

I Peter 2:13-17 (The Message)

Father, I pray that my sons would make You proud by being good citizens in their schools, activities, communities, and world.

Help them to respect the authorities you have placed over them and to show that respect through their words, attitude, and conduct, even when they don’t agree or understand.

Remind them that they are emissaries of Christ’s love and grace.

Cause them to exercise their freedom by serving You and not merely their own interests.

As school is coming to a close, help them to finish the race strong, continuing to work hard, listening to Your Spirit and us, as parents, checking their attitudes, involvements, and time management.

 Impress on them to treat others with dignity and love those of the faith, revering You, God, and respecting authority.

In Christ’s name I pray for my young men, Amen.

Sunday Psalms: He Upholds the Cause of the Oppressed

Sunday Psalms: He Upholds the Cause of the Oppressed

Psalms 146:7-10 (NIV)

“He upholds the cause of the oppressed

    and gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets prisoners free,

    the Lord gives sight to the blind,

the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,

    the Lord loves the righteous.

The Lord watches over the foreigner
    and sustains the fatherless and the widow,

    but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

 The Lord reigns forever,
    your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.”

Shoes Today, School Tomorrow, Hope for the Future! {Building Blocks for Orphans}

Shoes Today, School Tomorrow, Hope for the Future! {Building Blocks for Orphans}
I’m excited to announce that our June Camp LIFE trip to Zambia, Africa with Family Legacy has been fully funded!

Today my younger son, Hudson, and I attended our final meeting and we are pumped about going!

Check out this very special video our dear friend, Cameron, made of my trip with my older son, Zach, from last year. Please view and let it break your heart for what breaks God’s heart:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=023_8jeVx9w.

BUT WAIT! We still have some opportunities for YOU to participate in bringing healing, hope and joy to orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia!

First of all, you can participate in Shoes Today, School Tomorrow, Hope for the Future.
To attend school in Zambia, a child MUST have a pair “school shoes.” In a country where most people are surviving on less than $1 a day, purchasing new school shoes for 1 child is nearly impossible, let alone more children. With an education, these children from the bottom of society can go on to become the doctors, lawyers, teachers, politicians… of Zambia. Instead of being viewed as a burden, they can now have the opportunity to break out of the cycle of poverty with a life-changing education.

But this is not a reality if children cannot walk through the door of a school with the “right” pair of shoes.

For only $20, you can provide a pair of shoes to one of the Zambian children attending Camp LIFE  in our group this summer. We will take pictures of the shoe fitting experience and share them with you! What a great reward of $20 well spent!

100% of these funds will be used to purchase the shoes in Zambia. In fact, I will bring the monies with me, as Family Legacy will buy the shoes there.  Currently, they have 7,000 shoes on order for all the kids coming to Camp LIFE.

If you are interested in participating, you will need to give the $20 to me personally. Checks made payable to Family Legacy.

BUT WAIT! We have another opportunity for you to participate in with us–the Father’s Heart Sponsorship Program. Hudson and I have decided to travel to Zambia two days early to visit our sponsored child, Kennedy, and two other boys, James and Gift, who are being sponsored by two of our dear friends.

Kennedy, me, and Pamela (my Translator)

James, me, and Pamela (my translator)

Zach, Gift, and his Translator

Because we are traveling two days earlier, our costs have increased by $1,000. If you would like to contribute to this portion of our trip, we would gladly show you pictures and stories of our sponsorship visit with these three boys.

Just this week, we found out that Family Legacy received enough funding to build a Community School in these boys’ compound. Last year when we were there, they had a make-shift cinderblock school. This year they have a real school! Because they are now in a “real” school, they cannot attend Camp LIFE  when we are there, as they will be preparing for their end-of-year exams.

However, if we go two days early, we can have a special visit with these boys through the Father’s Heart Sponsorship Program.

If you would like to participate in funding this portion of our trip, you can make a donation HERE.

BUT WAIT! (I know! I sound like an infomercial. But I promise this is for a wonderfully, eternal cause!) There is one more opportunity to participate in bringing healing, hope and joy to these kids.

Because we are traveling on a missions flight, we are allowed to bring an extra suitcase each. Therefore, if you would like to donate any of the below items, you can contact me a [email protected].

On My Knees for Such as These – Day 18: Strong Roots

On My Knees for Such as These – Day 18: Strong Roots

“They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:8 {NIV}

Lord, cause my boys to bear lasting fruit in their lives through the gift of your Spirit.

 You are the fountain of their lives.

Enliven and refresh them when they have listless, thirsting souls. Encourage their spirits through your love and vibrant life that renews.

You are the tree of life. Make strong the branches of my boys’ lives when they are weakened by the storms of life.

Keep them fresh and filled with your life, your Spirit, your living water.

When their lives are restless and weary, deepen their roots in Your Word.

Refresh them and bring them joy by infusing them with Your Spirit and more of Your abundant life.

Your people, the church, is your orchard. Let them find peace, nourishment and rest in its shade.

“All your people will live right and well,
in permanent possession of the land.
They’re the green shoot that I planted,
planted with my own hands to display my glory.”

Isaiah 60:21 {The Message}

Fitness Friday: How to Train for a Fun Run

Fitness Friday: How to Train for a Fun Run

This week was the culmination of one special boy running in a fun run. I work with my special friend who has cerebral palsy and gets around in an electric wheel chair. He dictates his math strategies to me and I walk with him in his gate trainer, a large walker type contraption.

We’ve shared a lot of laughs as I talk like Elmer Fudd instructing him to us his right leg, left leg (wight, weft). Sometimes, he kicks me when I walk backwards, facing him. I often jokingly say, “Hey! Do I look like a soccer ball?!” which only encourages him to try and kick me more.

Our school just participated in a Boosterthon Fun Run where the kids had to get pledges for each lap they ran. It’s an awesome program and it certainly motivated my special friend to get pledges and be determined he was going to run five laps in his gate trainer.

He and I were so thrilled when his grade level was scheduled to run at my designated time of day with him. I wish I could’ve taken pictures and shared them with you but, of course, I cannot do that in a school setting.  So I will try to paint a picture with words.

The lap course was set-up outside in the grass, so he couldn’t move too fast in his gate trainer but his exuberance was there, none-the-less. As other classmates ran around and around the course, my little friend kept plodding along. He stopped a couple times to rest his body, we gave him drinks of water, and he wanted us to pore the water on his head like the other kids were doing. When he looked weary, I’d hop in front of him and talk like Elmer Fudd which brought smiles to his face. And he’d try to kick me like a soccer ball. As kids ran by, they’d cheer him on and teachers/staff cheered from the sidelines.

His goal was to run five laps while the other kids could run 30+ laps. His therapist said for every lap he runs, he would expend an equivalent to four of the other kids’ laps. And that’s exactly what he did. He met his goal of five laps and we cheered, clapped, and praised our special friend.

As we helped him into his electric wheel chair, and I pushed the gate trainer back into the building, a lump began to form in my throat and mist in my eyes. I thanked God for choosing me at that time of day to walk with a special boy, cheer him on, make him laugh, and accomplish his goal.

I’ve learned from my special friend the following ways to train for a fun run:

1. Train with a friend.

2. Don’t be discouraged by other’s successes around you.

3. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

4. Have fun!

Christ is Risen {Jeremy Riddle}

Christ is Risen {Jeremy Riddle}

Lyrics by Jeremy Riddle

CHRIST IS RISEN

Come and see
Come and see where they laid Him
He is not here
He is not here, He is living

Quickly now go tell the world
Christ, the Lord, He is risen
The power of God
Forever raised Him from the grave

Where oh death’
Where oh death is your sting’
Swallowed up
You’re swallowed up in vict’ry

Quickly now go tell the world
Christ, the Lord, He is risen
The power of death
Could never hold Him in the grave

He is risen, Hallelujah
He is risen, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

If you do nothing else today, listen Jeremy Riddle’s album the now and not yet, featured in the sidebar under “Currently Listening To:”  This is one awesome album, especially in light of Easter. I can’t get enough of it–especially enjoying the song Surrendered in Praise. But I honestly love every song on this album–great depth in lyrics.

He is risen in my heart, in deed!
